What began as a family game with her daughter blossomed into a collection of recipes and stories about food from around the world.
The award-winning New York Times writer Mark Kurlansky will read from his new book "International Night", accompanied by his co-author, 14, Talia Kurlansky in 14 hours Sunday, August 24 bestseller, The Ketchum Community Library. The event is organized by Iconoclast Books in Ketchum.
Kurlansky is the author of numerous works of fiction and nonfiction, including "Cod", "salt", "Edible Stories" and "The Basque History of the World."
"International Night: A father and daughter cook your way in the world," began five years ago, when the daughter of the writer Talia began to turn the world every week to find inspiration for dinner on Sunday evening.
Wherever the finger landed Talia was the country of which were inspired by the kitchen. The result is a book of 52 meals, and more than 250 recipes from Morocco, French Guiana, Kazakhstan and other exotic locations.
All recipes for main dishes, appetizers and desserts, are designed to be completed to record from home cooks Simple.
"Cooking with children is a great thing to do. Children love about the culture and geography, and all kinds of things to talk," Kurlansky said.
He said he and Talia, speak the book about the process of writing and then sign copies for the readers.
"I hope that after everyone goes home and gets some with their children to cook," he said.
Kurlansky brought his knowledge of Basque culture to a story time in 2006 on the back of the Feast of Sacrifice. Last year he returned to Ketchum, give the opening speech at the festival.
"Eating is a way in all social and political things," he told participants of the festival.
Kurlansky also conducted writing workshops at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.
Kurlansky Parenting Publications won the Gold Award for 2011 National "World Without Fish" and the Peace Prize of the literature "non-violence" Dayton, and many other honors in 2007 and lives in New York. Tony Evans: tevans@mtexpress.com
